Community Outreach Director

Job Summary

Commonwealth Consultants, a Top 20 PR Firm that specializes in working with major public works and transportation projects, is seeking a Community Outreach Director for a prestigious client. The Community Outreach Director will serve as the Public Outreach Support Team Lead for the DC Clean Rivers Northeast Boundary Tunnel Project and is responsible for the development and implementation of the Public Relations support plan for the DC Clean Rivers Northeast Boundary Tunnel Project. This outreach effort should deliver on client goals while aligning with the company’s mission, vision and values.

The Community Outreach Director shall have a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in a lead Public Relations role on a large (greater than $100M) construction project in a major metropolitan environment. The Support Team Lead shall demonstrate a technical understanding of civil construction work, construction impacts and methods to mitigate impacts associated with the work.

Responsibilities and Duties

Including but not limited to:

  • Development and implementation of plans, schedules, submittals and other documents to comply with owner’s outreach requirements
  • Attending local meetings: Advisory Neighborhood Commission and other neighborhood association meetings
  • Leading and delivering presentations to local stakeholders, including government, citizens, businesses and others
  • Understanding citizen concerns with the project to mitigate construction impacts to residents and other stakeholders
  • Providing content for DC Water’s communications team
  • Provide and update Public Relations Plan document to organize and schedule design-builder performance
  • Assisting with the development and management of employees; supervise and, as necessary, train subordinate Outreach Area Leads
  • Managing media relations. Preparing and distributing press releases, statements and other supporting materials to media outlets; acts as company spokesperson
  • Other duties as assigned

 Qualifications

  • 10 years of career progression in a public relations role on >$100M construction project in a major metropolitan environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Demonstrated technical understanding of civil construction
  • Experience understanding and working to mitigate construction impacts
  • Experience leading public meetings and forums
  • Must be able to work under pressure while meeting strict deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Community Outreach Manager

Job Summary

Commonwealth Consultants, a Top 20 PR Firm that specializes in working with major public works and transportation projects, is seeking a Community Outreach Manager for a prestigious client. The Community Outreach Manager will serve as the Public Outreach Area Lead on the DC Clean Rivers Northeast Boundary Tunnel Project. The Manager is responsible for public relations support in neighborhoods and with stakeholders impacted by the construction of the DC Clean Rivers Northeast Boundary Tunnel.

The Outreach Manager shall have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Public Relations within the District of Columbia.

Duties shall include development of presentations and related materials, leading presentations and implementation of the overall external outreach effort outlined by client. This outreach effort should deliver on client goals while aligning with the company’s mission, vision and values.

Public Relations Internship

Commonwealth Consultants is seeking a Public Relations Intern for the summer of 2018.  Applicants should be currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.  Relevant communications experience is preferred (e.g. coursework, internships, volunteer work or other job history). Our ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Database management
  • Participate in grassroots community outreach
  • Social media maintenance
  • Compile media clips
  • Conduct website analysis and marketing research
  • Attend client meetings
  • Answer phone calls and perform daily office tasks
